Annual
Paidi O
Se Tournament
Feb 24 - 26
The
annual Paidi O Se
tournament begins on
Fri Feb 24 and is
expected to bring huge
numbers to West Kerry for
a weekend of GAA, Music
and Fun. 26 GAA clubs
from Ireland, Northern
Ireland and London,
compete in the
tournament.
The official
launch, which took place
on Tuesday evening at the
D4 Berkeley Hotel, Dublin
was attended by An
Taoiseach along with GAA
President Christy Cooney,
Minister Alan Shatter,
musician Liam O Maonlai
and Defence Forces Chief
of Staff, Lt General Sean
Mccann.
Now in its 23rd
year, the tournament is
being expanded this year
to include 26 senior,
intermediate and junior
GAA club teams from 14
counties across Ireland
and, adding an
international dimension,
the greater London
area.
The weekend is
expected to attract
hundreds to Corca
Dhuibhne for its duration
providing a very welcome
economic boost to the
area.
At the launch, it
was also announced that
the men's senior cup
will be renamed in memory
of former Defence Forces
Chief of Staff and
footballing legend Dermot
Earley.
The blessing of the
Dermot Earley Cup and a
recital from the Army No.
1 Band will take place on
Sunday, February
26.
Another
commemorative aspect to
this year's Comortas
is the renaming of the
'Player of the
Tournament Award'
which is now to be
dedicated to the memory
of Tralee native and firm
friend of Paidi's,
Aengus
Fanning, the
editor of the Sunday
Independent, who passed
away last month.
