United Airlines has Announced new Chicago to Shannon route
October 03, 2012
Shannon Airport’s status as the transatlantic gateway to Kerry and the West of Ireland is set to be significantly enhanced thanks to the announcement of a new route by United Airlines to Chicago from next summer.
The new route will be in addition to the hugely successful daily service to Newark that United operate on a year round basis at Shannon.
The Chicago service will generate an additional 20,000 passengers through the airport next year and provide a welcome boost for the West of Ireland in terms of business connections to the third largest city in the US, with almost 3million people. It is also a significant opportunity to increase in visitor numbers into the West of Ireland from this strong market for the Irish tourism product.
The new flights to Chicago will operate five times a week on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and commence on 06th June and operate until 28th August departing Shannon at 11.00am. All United Airlines flights will use Shannon Airport’s unique US Preclearance facility, thus ensuring speedy access on arrival in the US for all passengers and those making connecting flights beyond Chicago.
This is fantastic news for the Kerry tourism sector and is also timely in the context of the Gathering next year.
