There are many water sport schools in the County recognised by government bodies such as The Irish Surfing Association, Irish Sailing Association, Irish Canoe Union, and the Irish Adventure Centre Association. Always try to choose one of these. What makes Kerry a great water sports destination, particularly the Dingle Peninsula is that it has a North and a South side so depending on the direction of swell and wind you can normally find a sheltered and safe place to indulge, depending on your level of expertise. Ballybunion has been known for many years as a holiday destination. It boasts two Blue Flag Beaches, Ballybunion North and Ballybunion South. It is also known for surfing. There are many types of surfing in the bay. Beginners, Improvers and Advanced Water Sport enthusiasts will all find something here. This area hosts a surf event once a year. Ballyheigue is a popular traditional seaside area and has a beautiful Blue Flag beach. Banna Beach is is also a Blue Flag Beach and has a number of water sport schools in operation. It has a fantastic new car park with plenty of spaces, as well as changing facilities and toilets. This area is ideal for surfing beginners. Fenit is known for its lighthouse, its pier, fishing and having a glorious Blue Flag Beach. It has a sailing school that offers various activities including canoeing, sailing, and IFA sailing courses. This is a great place to launch your dinghy if you’re in Kerry on holiday! The Castlegregory and Maharees area is justly famous for its water sports. Wind surfing, Kite Surfing, Surfing, Pedal boating, diving, kids clubs, water trampolines, and surfing clubs can all be found here! There are many schools here that offer activities for children all year around but mainly during the summer season. Maharabeg Beach is a beautiful Blue Flag beach in this area. There is a great choice of places to eat and drink here after you’ve worked up your appetite on the sea! The Maharees has hosted many international events for Wind Surfing and continues to do so. It has two large bays -Brandon bay and Tralee bay and the smaller Scraggane bay where wind surfing is very popular. All levels of Wind Surfing are catered for. The Maharees has an annual rowing regatta and Surfing Championships. Brandon Bay has its very own Brandon Bay web cam.
