Fungie The Dingle Dolphin

Fungie is a wild Bottlenose Dolphin, In 1983 Fungie, choose to make Dingle Harbour his home.
Fungie has never been fed in order to induce him to stay or perform. He is just interested in playing around with the boats and with the swimmers who go into the water on the early morning trips.

Why did he come? ... Why does he stay? ... Will he ever leave?

These are some of the questions Dingle Boatmen's Association and all the experts on earth cannot answer for you - ONLY FUNGIE KNOWS!

He is about 13 feet in length and weighs around 250lbs. The media named him in the early years and although there is no meaning in the Irish language for the word 'Fungie', it does suggest he is a Fun-Guy!

People from all walks of life, from all over the world, from 2 weeks to 93 years old, have come to Dingle especially to see Fungie. Many people decide to become one with nature, and meet with Fungie in his own environment, and brave the cold waters of the harbour (o.k. maybe not so brave when you've got a wetsuit!).

Celebrities, including Pierce Brosnan, Mary Black and Jean Kennedy-Smith, to name but a few, have come to see Fungie.

Fungie is one of the most popular attractions in Kerry and has bought so much joy to young and old over the years, some days Fungi is in great form and you will see him jumping spectacularly in the water and a trip is well worth it!!
